Eight Strategies to Increase your Eviction Compensation 2014, projection “Eight Strategies to Increase your Eviction Compensation” is a series of projections in the empty alleyways of one of Shanghai's biggest Lilong ever built. This once thriving community has been relocated and the old houses will be soon demolished to make space to a new development. My project aims to create a juxtaposition between the ingenious strategies used by communities to receive higher monetary compensation before their eviction, and the images of the ideal family often portrayed on the billboards of new developments. The Eight Strategies are the product of my 5-year long research into the relocation and eviction of old communities in China. They hint to stories of resistance, greed, impotence and desperation that often characterises the eviction of people from their homes.
